Exclusive interview with emerging bilingual singer SOPHIA TREADWAY on her single KISS N TELL produced by 2022 Grammy-Award Winner (Best Album, Jon Batiste) Autumn Rowe.

Sophia spoke to A BOOK OF about her Inspirations, creative journey, dreams, highs and lows of her career, and life lessons and more.

What’s the story behind your new single KISS N TELL?

I was thinking about a song concept and a conversation came up between Autumn and I. I was talking to her about all the guys I was crushing on and how I don’t want or have time right now for anything serious but I want to be young and have fun – that’s the whole story of how Kiss N Tell came to life.

How would you describe your music/sound?

My sound is very pop with some R&B and Latin vibe to it.

Where do you get your inspirations whenever you create music?

I have different inspirations for each song I’ve created, specifically for Kiss N Tell we took a lot of Inspiration from the Y2ks and mixed current pop vibes as well.

Does music run in the family?

Music does not run in my family I’m the only musician and singer in my family.

What’s your creative process like?

My usual creative process when making a song starts when we're working on the skeleton of the track and then I begin writing the lyrics from there and building onto it.

Can you walk us through your process?

I'll normally head into the studio with an idea of what I want. My producer likes to start on the track with me in the room and will bounce ideas of each other and then I begin writing based around the track and any ideas that come to me during this process.

For you, when is the best time to create/write music?

In the studio I work my best because you are in the room listing to the track and feeling it out and only focusing on the writing. Also, if I have any ideas that come to me in my day to day, I'll write them down as well or voice memo the idea on to my phone.

What’s the most ideal environment for you?
The studio is my all-time favorite writing environment

When you write your songs/music, do you think of yourself, your emotions and whatever you’re feeling, or do you think of the fans and what they would love to hear from you?

When I write I think of myself and my emotions and feelings, but I also think about my fans during that process and how my story and my emotions can relate to other people; how I can write in a way that not only tells my story but that listeners can relate to and feel that it's their story too.

Which artists inspire you to push yourself further?

Artist like Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Jlo, Jack Harlow, and Rhianna.

How did your music journey begin?

I've been singing since I could talk. Singing has always been my passion, but my music journey began and took off at age 7 when I started taking vocal lessons and competed at I Pop in Los Angeles and won first place in my age group for singing. This led me to many callbacks and one being Indasoul and Onkey entertainment who I still work with to this day.

How did music change your life?

Music has brought me so much joy and makes me truly happy creating. I hope to keep growing my audience and spread positivity to others.

What do you think is the best lyric/song that you’ve made so far and why?

My favorite song I’ve created that is released would have to be "Close To Me", I love everything about the song and was super involved with the writing process and the lyrics can relate to everybody.

What are the highs and the lows of your career so far?

A high was recently getting verified on Instagram and growing my monthly listeners on Spotify and I can’t really think of any lows. I’ve had some tough moments but nothing I couldn’t accomplish in the end. Something I hope to grow would be my TikTok page and following.

How do you adapt and keep yourself relevant?

I'm always listening to new artists and the new trends that come along and constantly learning about the music industry each and every day to keep myself relevant. I'm always trying to bring something new to the table when it comes to my sound but keep it fresh.

What are you excited the most this year?

I'm excited to release more music this year and to see what the future holds. Hopefully some exciting new projects to come so stay tuned.

What’s a valuable lesson that you’ve learned from your career that you think is universally relevant?

That hard work is when preparation meets opportunity. To always be prepared and continue to work hard because you never know what opportunity could be coming your way but you want to make sure to be ready for it when it does.

If you were a book, what book would you be and why?

“Following my dreams" would be the title of my made up book!
